The After Siesta Evening Sightseeing

Friday afternoon seemed to require a siesta. Slept for a bit then went out about 8pm.

The weather is very nice here. Warm to hot during the day -- warm to cool in the evening. My room doesn't have any heater or fan. The hot water is solar with only a small storage tank -- so no hot shower in the morning.

Started the evening with coca leaf tea.

The leaves go in the strainer, steep and then drink. I had honey in the tea. The tea tasted like herb tea -- and I did not notice any effects from the coca. Of course not sleeping on the plane, and a different schedule means I am all cooko so how would I know...

There are huge ancient churches here so sightseeing includes a lot of churches. This door is heavy and thick. Also I wanted to show how NOT ADA compliant Arequipa is -- look at that transom one has to step over.

It's stepper beware here. Holes in the side walk, cars trying to cream you, and be sure to step up or step down at the right spots!

Inside the church.

Church.

Visited several art galleries!

The buildings are incredibly old -- and at night are very interesting!

Many of the building were originally private homes. You would enter off the street through a gate into a central courtyard -- with the rooms opening into this courtyard. Now, many of these buildings are commercial -- with shops and restaurants opening into the central courtyards. Really nice!

Having a Peruvian beer and a snack at a restaurant inside one of these courtyards.

This restaurant is called Tanta. Nice place.

And a nice men's room!

I spotted this gargoyle on a bank building during the walk.

Back to bed. Tomorrow will book a tour and probably touring more churches.
