Going to Peru

I am about to take off for Peru!

While I used to travel quite a bit for work — I have not been traveling other than locally for quite some time, and never been to Peru, and never been over the Equator. This should be a fun trip!

I am flying out of San Francisco 7:45pm Thursday, October 3, will return on the 14th. I am braced for some long, boring travel time! The flight out of San Francisco is a 14 hour flight nonstop to Lima, Peru. But, before this 14 hour flight I need to travel to the airport, I need to arrive early to go through security screening and do International travel details and checklists. The airline wants me there three hours early, and lets say a hour drive time — whats that add up to, 18 hours?

I arrive in Lima the next day at 7:05am. But that's not all as I am continuing on to Arequipa. I wait in the Lima airport for my 10:40am flight, which arrives at Arequipa at 12:05. Once there I wait for ground transportation to my lodging. Ouch.

Coming back is worse. There are no convenient flights out of Arequipa that connect with any outbound flights out of Lima. On the way out I arrive at Lima at 9pm, the connection flight to San Francisco leaves the next day at 9:05am.
